Adam Barnett and Bryan Podell, ’09 WHS graduates, held a benefit concert on Saturday, Nov. 28 at the Harmony Village clubhouse to raise money for Toys for Tots.
Toys for Tots is a charity that gives toys to families who cannot afford to spend money on toys for their children.
“Bryan and I decided to put on a charity show just because that’s what we do; we never do shows to make money ourselves. It (donating to Toys for Tots) is especially big now because it’s the holidays. As a kid, that’s pretty much what you do; you play with toys,” Barnett said.
Six bands performed at the concert. Some performers are WHS alumni, Buffalo Grove High School students and a band from Peoria, IL.
Barnett and Podell advertised for the event by creating a Facebook event and inviting all of their friends to attend, as well as making flyers and spreading the news by word of mouth.
“I heard about it because JT (Teichert, junior) told me and Kelsey (Schauer, junior) that we should go, so we did, and we had a lot of fun,” Melody Sylvester, sophomore, said.
An estimated fifty people attended the concert in total, but according to Barnett, “people were coming in and out a lot.”
For admission to the concert, people were charged five dollars or a toy to donate to the cause. Barnett and Podell collected a large amount of toys to donate to Toy for Tots, as well as $300 to buy more toys for the charity.
