Walking around the halls it’s easy to find the seniors chosen for Honor Pack. As people like Brittany Alamo, senior,  walk around with giant containers of cupcakes, which contends the size of her bookbag and a bright neon pink box for profit, creativity is key to reaching the two-hundred dollar goal.

For Honor Pack school sponsored activities choose a senior which has shown leadership qualities throughout the school year. From then on they meet with Sandra Chico, student council sponsor, to obtain their goal sheet, which explains the hardships of two current students. The following four weeks consist of raising money for these to kids by fundraising throughout the school and the community.

Among and endless sea of baked goods there stands Anuj Mehta, senior, voted into the event by Science Olympiad, who promises to completely shave his head if his goal is reached. Shouting his promise as he walks around the halls with his donation can Mehta even created a Facebook group to advertise the cause.

“I talked with Ms. Chico to figure out a way to raise money and we decided to do something crazy,” Mehta said. Mehta walks around the lunchroom asking for any sort of change. As long as somebody donates something, he even asks for pennies.

As he sits in the table with his black and gold colored box, Mehta holds it protectively. Nick Modlin, sophomore, decided to donate a few quarters at the spot.

“I feel great when people donate,” Mehta said. “I actually met one of the kids and that motivates me more.”

But even though, Mehta has offered to shave his head, not all of his family knows about it. His dad, according to him, is okay with him shaving his head but his mum is another story completely. At the moment she is in India and doesn’t know anything about him shaving his head. To find his son without hair, would “freak her out.”

As the day progressed, for Mehta it was important to raise money for the two families and when the final dollar was raised for the 200 dollar goal, he was accomplished.

“Momma went on the microphone and riled everyone up. I was extremely excited,” Mehta said.

With his goal accomplished, Mehta’s hair was shaved. Comments throughout his class rang about as they told him that everyone in the pep assembly would want to see his shaved head.

“It’s not for them; it’s for the cause,” Mehta said.
