In response to recent community and school conflicts, WHS administrators have opened the preexisting phone tip line to text messages starting this month.

“Most kids text so we thought it would be best to adapt to the times. It also makes it easier to facilitate information,” Ramon Williams, dean of students, said.

The tip line phone can be found in the attendance office and all messages are only read by staff members and administration. According to Dean Williams all messages will be anonymous, the administration does not care who tells them about the problem.

“We want kids to notify us about any weapons, drugs, drug dealing, bullying etc., also any community issue such as a gang fight, underage drinking, parties, or burglaries,” Stephani Conboy, police officer, said.

Although the adapted tip line allows texting, the administration does not encourage cell phone use during the school day. According to Dean Williams, if a student wishes to send a message, he or she should do so after school or during one’s off-campus lunch.

“I think a lot of kids are afraid to physically come in (and talk to the administrators) and this will give them a way to help the school community while remaining absolutely anonymous,” Officer Conboy said.

“I don’t think a lot of kids know that we can text information in, but if its advertised I think students will let the office know,” Daniella Trejo, senior, said.
