Teens should not obsess over Silly Bandz

As I stood in gym class avoiding going up for bat, I witnessed an encounter between two students both wearing strange rubber bands around their arms. “What kind of animals do you have?” said one student. “I don’t have animals, but I have objects,” replied the other.
I was immediately confused wondering what these bracelets consisted of and what the students meant by creatures and objects.
The student had a confused look on her face as she proclaimed,”That’s lame. I’m not trading with you,” and walked away.
After further examination, I found out that the bracelets, known as Silly Bandz can be taken off and form back in the shape of an object, animal, etc.
My immediate respond to the conclusion that we are not in kindergarten anymore and should not obsess with animals. I also don’t understand the appeal of wearing them, because they do not look like animals on your arm. To me, they look like twisted oddly shaped strings.
After three days, I slowly saw more and more people wearing them in the hallways of WHS. I felt shocked when I saw a senior wearing them on the announcements.
I walked in to Walgreens on a Wednesday afternoon to see a group of kids surrounding a stand of Silly Bands. They were comparing them by object, animal, and if they were glow in the dark. I don’t understand how our society has come to such a low where we go crazy and buy animal shaped rubber bands, ecspecially in this economy.
One pack of Silly Bandz, which includes 24 bracelets, is sold at an average of $4 a pack. I find it ridiculous that people would waste their money on this product because when they go out of trend, no one will wear them. It’s stupid to spend money so that you join the crowd of having colorful bands on your arms.
While walking in the hallway I heard a strange snapping noise. I turned around to hear an upperclassman yelp the word ouch. I saw in her hand she contained a broken Silly Bandz. Later recongizing more several bands being broken I wondered why people would spend money on items so easily breakable.
Just like the livestrong bracelets, which I rarely see today, they will end up in an abandon pile on your dresser which will later get thrown out.
Normally I enjoy trends and will follow them but this has become ridiculous. Why would someone waste four dollars of their money for packets of rubber bands? This is a silly expense that the community should not be spending money on.
I strongly suggest to grow out of this strange phase of animal rubber bands and stop wasting your money on a trend that will die at least by the end of summer.
