Last but not least, the top ten songs of the summer. These songs are the songs that truly spell summer. Every word screams summer, every tune has the summer vibe. Not matter who sings them, what year they were made or what genre of music the song is, they will be the timeless songs that reminds everyone of summer.

10. Wild At Heart by Gloriana When I hear this song, I think of jean shorts and cowboys. When I think of cowboys, I think of the country, which reminds me of the vacation I take every summer. I know, confusing, I’m sorry. Other then that long list of things that remind me of “Wild At Heart,” I like how it talks about kids just, “running loose and wild.

9. We Say Summer by All Time Low Just like All Time Low’s song “The Beach,” this song shares stories about fun memories during the summer. It says, “we say summer hold such wonderful things.” That statement alone makes me look forward to summer.

8. The Boys of Summer by The Ataris I really like this song because I think of a boy trying to chase a girl that doesn’t want him. I always picture them by a pool or in a desert-like place. I think it’s just a fun summer song.

7. Love Drunk by Boys Like Girls Last summer, all I heard on the radio was this song. It’s a great song and it’s just so carefree. Although, the radio overplayed it, the song was well-written and created a picture in my head. Unfortunately, I hardly ever hear it anymore. Where’d it go? I want it back.

6. All Summer Long by Kid Rock For obvious reasons, this song talks about summer throughout the whole song. I love how Kid Rock wrote it like it was in present time, but then the one line “She’ll forever hold a spot inside my heart” pushes it back into the past.

5. Kissin’ U by Miranda Cosgrove Let me be truthful, this is not one of my favorite songs. But, I thought it deserved its fame with how much I’ve heard this song. I think it’s one of the only songs ever played on Nickelodeon anymore. It does have a summer feel to it though–the music video flips back and forth from a beach to washing a car, which are both activities associated with summer.

4. Warmth of the Sand by Dashboard Confessional Literally right when the bell rang ending the school year, I had this song stuck in my head. In the song, Dashboard Confessional’s led singer, Chris Carrabba, sings about this year, he will get the girl with the lines “you will be mine this year.” I thought it was cute how he made that goal for himself.

3. Summer Nights by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John A music countdown would not be complete without some “Grease.” I never really thought about this song until I watched the movie a couple weeks back. I realized that it is actually very relevant with summer. Most people want that summer romance and I think it’s just a great song to listen to, to try and look forward to something in the summer.

2. California Gurls by Katy Perry (ft. Snoop Dogg) I first heard a little part of this song coming from my sisters iPod and thought nothing of it. Then, when I heard it on the radio, I thought it was a great song. I love how she uses alliteration in her lyrics with lines like “warm, wet, and wild” and “sun-kissed skin/so hot” because I feel like it embraces all the descriptions of summer, but sings them in a nice, poetic way.

1. Summertime by Kenny Chesney For the first week of summer, I had this song stuck in my head all the time. Kenny Chesney creates a picture in my head with his descriptions. Instead of saying “it’s hot in the summertime,” he says “temperature says 93.” He uses the line “school’s out and the nights roll in/man, just like a long lost friend” instead of just plainly stating that he stays up late during the summer and he’s glad that’s back.
