Mustangs leave Wildcats behind after double overtime

After going into double overtime, the boys varsity soccer team fell short of defeating Rolling Meadows.

Starting the game, the Wildcats couldn’t gain control of the ball, giving the lead to the Mustangs. The score remained at 0-0.

With the clock reading 26:43, Arturo Escobedo, senior starting goal keeper, made the first save for the wildcats. While the clock read 19:44, Diego De la Cerda, senior, makes the first goal of the game, pulling the Wildcats into the lead with a score of 1-0.

Rolling Meadows scored with 8:22 left on the clock, ending the first quarter with a score of 1-1 .

“We just had a lot of chances, but we couldn’t finish,” Alan Flores, junior, said about not being able to pull ahead from the Mustangs.

Starting the second quarter, Rolling Meadows takes the lead by scoring with 39:22 left on the clock.

With 19:36 left on the clock, De la Cerda bumps heads with a Mustang, injuring himself and having to be taken out of the rest of the game. As the result, Dan Speidel, senior, takes a free kick, but misses the shot. Another injury in the game was David Eloisa, senior who got a bloody nose.

With 12:32 left in the game, Omar Lopez, junior, scored, putting the Wildcats back in the lead. The second quarter ends with a score of 2-2 and the game goes into an over time of 10 minutes. However, neither team is able to score and the game is pushed into another 10 minute over time. This time, with 6:54 minutes left on the clock, the Mustangs scored and the Wildcats lose the game with a score of 2-3.
