While they did not make it passed Regionals, since last year, girls golf players dropped several holes off of their average and improved their scores.
“We improved a lot from last year; hopefully we can improve a lot more,” Peggy Ellsworth, girls golf coach, said.
Kaitlyn Debusk, sophomore, cut about seven strokes off her score for nine holes; Jackie Resnick, sophomore, cut nine strokes; Cassie Rothbart, junior, dropped 12 strokes; and Natalie Parada, senior, dropped 13 strokes.
“I thought it went well. We improved a lot since last season win better scores and we won more matches,” Resnick said.
Although members improved scores, the team suffered injuries throughout the season. According to Joanne McNamee, assistant girls golf coach, this often forced them to play without a full team.
“One girl was out for almost 10 days,” Coach McNamee said. “Resnick had some knee issues. That was one reason we didn’t have a full team, but when all four (Debusk, Resnick, Rothbart and Parada) were there, we won and did really well.”
Looking to next year, both Coach Ellsworth and Coach McNamee are hopeful. According to Coach McNamee, Parada will have senior leadership next year. In addition, Coach McNamee expects many members of junior varsity will do well next year.
“Rebecca Way (junior) and Rebecca Falkiner (sophomore) will be huge additions to varsity,” Coach McNamee said.
Despite this, both coaches said that the team needs to practice more.
“Thy need to participate more outside of he season and have more dedication,” Coach Ellsworth said.
