Wrestling season starts with division title goal

by Mark Tannous, Broadcast Editor With fall sports in the history books, winter sports have now arrived, which means wrestling season is underway. The Wildcats’ first meet takes place at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at home, and according to two wrestlers, Wheeling will win their division. “I’m excited because every drop of sweat, every drop of blood and all the hard work will pay off when we bring Wheeling back to a division title,” Ricky Muro, sophomore, said. Godlewski advances to State

District 214 ponders insurance options

by Megan Jones, Editor-in-Chief Gridiron Alliance, local advocates who reach out to paralyzed high school athletes, asked District 214 to consider a paid insurance policy that would cover student athletics in case of “catastrophic” accidents. The discussion arose at the school board meeting on Thursday, Oct. 18. “The district should look into more insurance policies because there are many families who may not have insurance at Wheeling, and it would be nice to have more protection at athletic events,” Chad Mikosz, senior, said. Kern signs letter of intent for softball scholarship

I’ve known for a while now, but it’s good to sign my papers and make it official,” Kern said. Varsity girls swimmers make personal bests at MSL meet

by Rosalie Chan, Web Editor Varsity girls swimming placed 11th out of 12th at the Mid-Suburban League Swimming Meet on Oct. 27 at Barrington High School. Some highlights of the meet included the personal best times for Theresa Godlewski, sophomore, and Adrienne Rozmus, freshman. Godlewski broke the school record for the 100 yard backstroke once again, with a time of 1:00:46. Interact with Africa surpasses fundraising goal through Hoops for Africa

Photos by Frida Valdés, Feature Editor Interact with Africa sponsored the third annual Hoops for Africa on Oct. 25. Students played basketball against staff, and the students won. Members of the club sold tickets, t-shirts, bracelets and concessions during lunch periods and during the game. IWA raised more than $1,300.  The funds go towards building schools in Angola, Africa.
