Students, staff and faculty, walking in the main hallway on Wednesday, May 8th, and Thursday, May 9th, had the chance to purchase homemade treats, where 100 percent of the funds raised would go towards sending Michael Onyszczak, junior, to speech team nationals in Alabama.

Since Onyszczak qualified for nationals, he decided to have a bake sale in order to raise the approximately $600 needed.

According to Onyszczak, he’s raised around $400 so far.  To reach these numbers, he’s calculated sales, donations, and costs of materials.

U.S. Extemporaneous National Forensic League, is the official name of the competition that Onyszczak will compete in.

In the competition, contestants are given a political topic, which they have to discuss for eight minutes.

“We have around half an hour to prepare for our topic,” Onyszczak said.

Jessica Maciejewski, Speech Team sponsor, was at his side helping him calculate the numbers, and also helping him sell some of the treats.

Onyszczak had a variety of treats to choose from, from 50 cent cookie bars, to 75 cent cookies and pumpkin bread for 75 cents, which came with the choice of whip cream for an extra 50 cents.

Another treat sold were homemade sandwiches, customers could choose their own cookies, and ice cream flavors, for a total of $2.
