Student Council plans Homecoming, Spirit Days

by Megan Jones, Editor-in-Chief

After school today, WHS will begin to be transformed as Student Council decorates the foyer and classes adorn their respective hallways to prepare for Homecoming week.

Student Council has planned a week of Homecoming activities for Oct. 1-6, based off the theme “Under the Skyline, Chicago.”

Homecoming week will kick off on Monday with “Fancy Dress Day,” and a Coronation assembly in the gymnasium at 8:53 a.m. Senior stars and court will be honored during the assembly. Freshman, sophomore and junior classes have elected one boy and girl per class to represent their grade.

Each class while compete throughout the week in Penny Wars; all the proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Students may nominate teachers to take a “pie in the face” by dropping money in jars to vote for their favorites.

Other highlighted events throughout the week include a Pool Party on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and a Movie Night featuring ‘The Avengers’ on Thursday at 8 p.m.

A pep assembly will be held on Friday at 2:19 p.m. Teachers with the highest number of votes will take a pie in the face, students will compete in tug-of-war and several school groups will perform. The spirit day wear will feature “Extreme Blue and Gold Day.” Art Club will provide face painting in the main hall during lunch periods.

The Homecoming football game vs. Buffalo Grove High School will take place at 7:30 p.m, following a pregame presentation of the Homecoming Court. The winner of the class spirit stick will also be revealed at halftime.

The Homecoming dance will be held on Saturday from 8 to 11 p.m. in the gymnasium. Students need to preregister online at Wheeling High School’s website. Tickets cost $20 for single and $40 for couple.
