DECA competes at state, students make finals

by Jackie Camacho, Staff Reporter DECA, a competitive business club, went to Decatur, Ill. to compete at the state level the weekend of March 7 to 9. Kelsey Nicpon, Ryan Steinberg, Miranda Vollmer, Jackie Camacho, Joe Dundovich, Cameron DeCoursey and Cameron Forst, seniors, and Alex Gleyzer and Anna Gleyzer, juniors, all competed in different events in the marketing field. The competition consisted of taking short tests related to business and presenting marketing ideas to a judge. Six Wheeling students made it to the top ten finalists for their events. Duel: Scholastic Bowl vs. Teachers

                  by Erik Hernandez, Asst. News Editor On Feb. 27, scholastic bowl held its annual tournament where the members compete against teachers. JV won with 180 points, teachers won second with 70, and varsity won third with 50. “It builds camaraderie,” Cynthia Carro, scholastic bowl sponsor, says, “It also displays our students skill and talent on how much they know.” The event was a way to end the year in a celebratory manner. In a year or two, Ms. Carro hopes to publicize the event on a higher scale.

Musto competes in Nationals, wins silver medal

                            by Megan Jones, Editor-in-Chief Jess Musto, senior, headed to Orlando, Fl. and won a silver medal in a “Star Competition” for fashion during the week of July 9, after qualifying at Regionals and State for the Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) design competition. “It was definitely nerve-wracking because you are at high stakes and want to do your best, but at the same time you know you have made it to Nationals, which is an accomplishment in itself,” Musto said. Accounting Club works with Relay For Life to collect money

by Rosalie Chan, Web & News Editor Accounting Club prepares for Relay for Life by collecting money at Bank Night and Relay for Life. “We usually collect between $30,000 and $40,000,” Kevin Lennon, business teacher, said. “It’s cool to see that much cash coming in.” On May 8, they had a meeting, where they received accounting training for Relay for Life. On May 9, Accounting Club will collect money at Relay for Night’s Bank Night, where Relay for Life participants can turn in the money they have raised.
