Prom will take place May 31 at the Lincolnshire Marriott.  Post-Prom will take place in the same room as the dance. “There’s a stigma that things happen after prom that students might engage in at risk behavior, and it’s that mentality that it’s their last night being a high school student so they can do it and get away with it because it’s been done in the past, so we’re trying to get away from that,” Raymundo Galarza, Operation Snowball adviser, said. Orchesis hosts Dance for Life Benefit

Orchesis will host their 19th annual Dance for Life Next Generation event on Sunday, March 3rd from 5 to 7 p.m. The proceeds are donated to Dance for Life and the Children’s Place Association. The event will feature eleven youth companies performing professionally choreographed pieces by Chicago’s premier artists. Tickets for the benefit are $12.

Orchesis piece selected for IL State High School Dance Festival

by Megan Jones, Editor-in-Chief  “Almost Never Clearly Obsecure,” a piece choreographed by Robert Perales, senior, was selected for the Illinois State High School Dance Festival, which will be held in May. “The piece is about someone’s inability to love,” Perales said. “My character basically turns to drugs and alcohol and by doing so, he hurts his relationship. These two people who belong together are corrupted by an entity that goes beyond their control. Orchesis celebrates Alumni through Winter Showcase

by Chris Nush, Staff Reporter After their performance in Dance Chicago’s Future Stars concert, WHS’s Orchesis program  announced it’s annual Winter Showcase. The main theme of the Winter Showcase was to show how WHS alumni were continuing their careers in dance. “There’s a lot of alumni out there doing pretty cool stuff and continuing careers in dance,” Diane Rawlinson, Orchesis director, said. “And so this year, I decided I wanted to celebrate  a number of things our alumni are doing.” The showcase was dedicated to Scott Bartell,  a guest choreographer for Orchesis. New folkloric dance club created, promoted

by Perla Jiménez, La Voz Editor In recent years, students from various cultures, both Latin American and otherwise have participated in unofficial folkloric dances for WHS. This year, Latino Club will attempt to bring these students together under the instruction of Minerva Solano, dance teacher. To attract interested students, two dance workshops were planned. The next workshop will run on Monday, Nov. 19. Ms. Solano has several activities planned for the workshop. In addition to teaching the basic steps of a folkloric dance, she also plans to model various traditional folkloric costumes and teach a bit about Latino culture. Gabriela…

Student Council plans Homecoming, Spirit Days

by Megan Jones, Editor-in-Chief After school today, WHS will begin to be transformed as Student Council decorates the foyer and classes adorn their respective hallways to prepare for Homecoming week. Student Council has planned a week of Homecoming activities for Oct. 1-6, based off the theme “Under the Skyline, Chicago.” Homecoming week will kick off on Monday with “Fancy Dress Day,” and a Coronation assembly in the gymnasium at 8:53 a.m. Senior stars and court will be honored during the assembly. Freshman, sophomore and junior classes have elected one boy and girl per class to represent their grade. Each class…
