Editorial: Relay negatively interferes with AP testing

Relay For Life promises a fun overnight event with friends while being able to give back and raise money for cancer research. For the past four years, members of Spokesman have participated on a publication team. However, Relay’s event planning has a conflicting problem. Relay’s planned event for Saturday, May 4, conflicts with the upcoming week of Advanced Placement (AP) testing starting on Monday, May 6 and brings forward the issue of sleep schedules and distractions with test preparations. Marquez fundraises for Relay For Life, other cancer charities

by Rosalie Chan, Web & News Editor     Ever since she has become cancer-free, Amanda Marquez, freshman, has raised money for cancer research because of her inspiration to give back to the community. “I feel that I need to give back since they (doctors, hospitals, cancer organizations) helped me.  It would help future patients get better,” Marquez said. Recently, Marquez participated in Relay for Life, an American Cancer Society event.  She raised and stayed overnight at the Wheeling Relay for Life event on May 19, where she participated in the survivor’s walk. Accounting Club works with Relay For Life to collect money

by Rosalie Chan, Web & News Editor Accounting Club prepares for Relay for Life by collecting money at Bank Night and Relay for Life. “We usually collect between $30,000 and $40,000,” Kevin Lennon, business teacher, said. “It’s cool to see that much cash coming in.” On May 8, they had a meeting, where they received accounting training for Relay for Life.
