Scotese to head student services

by Rosalie Chan, Web Editor When Dr. Holly Ravitz, assistant principal for student services, retires this year, Tom Scotese, dean of students at Hersey, will assume the position. “He worked for me when he was a social worker, so I’m excited,” Dr. Ravitz said.  “I think he will be a wonderful asset.” Mr. Scotese will assume his position on July 1. “I think it’s exciting for me because it (my new position) puts the three parts I did before together.  There’s a good feeling about coming back to Wheeling,” Mr. Scotese said.  “I know a lot of the staff and…

Interact with Africa surpasses fundraising goal through Hoops for Africa

Photos by Frida Valdés, Feature Editor Interact with Africa sponsored the third annual Hoops for Africa on Oct. 25. Students played basketball against staff, and the students won. Members of the club sold tickets, t-shirts, bracelets and concessions during lunch periods and during the game. IWA raised more than $1,300.  The funds go towards building schools in Angola, Africa.

WHS says goodbye, honors Cadle

by Megan Jones, Editor-in-Chief A standing ovation was held for Margaret Cadle, special education assistant, for her retirement after 69 years in education. Cadle was surprised to see staff members joined in the front of the school and forming two lines for Cadle to walk through. She was also surprised with flowers, balloons, and a limousine ride to a party celebrating her service  and the end of the school year. When asked to make a speech, Cadle looked out to the crowd and said “I love you all.” Cadle has worked with Township High School District 214 for 49 years and held…
