John Uhrik, Adviser

Mr. John Uhrik graduated from Wheeling High School in 2001, now he returns to his alma mater as a teacher of English. He joins us from Carmel High School in Mundelein where, for the last three years, he taught English, coached both boys’ and girls’ volleyball, and ran The Harbinger—the school’s literary magazine. Mr. Uhrik’s life changing moment came back in the summer of 2006 when he studied at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England. During this term, Mr. Uhrik backpacked through a number of countries in Europe for roughly a seven-week period. From his exposure to the Viking Museum in Oslo, Norway to riding on a Venetian gondola to whitewater rafting in the Swiss Alps, Mr. Uhrik took advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study both himself and the world. His summer highlights included celebrating his one-year wedding anniversary with his wife and rescuing a week-old baby squirrel from a tragic lawnmower death.
